Broadcast Equipment Operators are required to support delivering broadcast and communication services, including television or radio programmes, podcasts, internet streaming services, pay-per-view, or downloadable content. Successful applicants will work within a team reporting to the Team Leader/Shift Leader, supporting both Production Crew and Broadcast and Media Systems Technicians and Engineers to ensure studio and web broadcast services and transmissions are consistently maintained without impacting live broadcasts.
Job Description:
- Managing and operating various shooting equipment, including cameras, lighting, and audio gear.
- Working closely with photographers, videographers, and production teams to ensure smooth operation during shoots.
- Providing technical support and troubleshooting assistance as needed during shooting sessions.
- Research topics and background information for items to be featured on the programme.
- Liaise with other members of the production and technical teams.
- Introduce and host programmes and interview guests in the studio, by telephone, or on location.
- Play music, read short news, traffic, sports, or weather reports and provide links between programmes.
- In radio, ‘drive’ the desk and operate some technical equipment for recording and playback, using computers to cue up and play music and jingles.
- Keep the programme to schedule, responding positively and quickly to problems or changes and improvising where necessary.
- In television, contact the director and production team in the studio gallery via the earpiece link.
- Meet with the production crew to assess or review a broadcast and plan the next one.
- Some administrative tasks, such as customer service support to the team, will be required after the radio show.
- Social media management during specified hours.
- Plan and rehearse shows, write and sometimes memorise scripts, autocue, or improvise.
